Glass Ceilings Smashed Already!

Shedding the shackles of the cruel lashes of my past

I rose like your “not-so-mainstream” phoenix, strong and steadfast 

No longer held down by his toxic hold,

I found the courage to break the mold.

I filed for divorce, took control of my fate

Refusing to let the cruel society dictate

The path that I would take in life,

Or the limits they would set on my strife.

Breaking the norms that held me back,

I showed the world what I was capable of, in fact

I worked hard, studied, learned and grew 

Refusing to let anyone decide what I could or could not do!

Through perseverance and dedication 

I landed a job in a male-dominated occupation

Proving myself to be a valuable asset

Working relentlessly, I refused to let anyone forget.

I am a survivor, warrior, a force to be reckoned with

No longer defined by his abuse, or the wounds and hurt that he did inflict!

I knew my pain will be my gain one day

Irrespective of what “they” out there say!

There is so much more to brag about 

But women don’t just depend on “words” to say it out loud.

Now, standing tall and free at last,

I no longer live in the dark caverns of my past.

In this era, hustle is the newest game

In which I have already made a fine name.

And though I will never forget the pain,

I know I have left it all behind, and won’t look back again!

I am extremely proud of what I have become

And I promise that I will continue shattering all the claustrophobic glass ceilings, one by one!
