Duke
Duke
A small furry thing
Landed in my arms
Staring back at me
With closed eyes
I looked back
It just squirmed in my hands
Slowly
I put it back in the nursery
Designed for it.
A few days after
I tried to hold it again
In my hands
It squirmed again
And jumped on the floor
I ran after it
And held it again
In my arms
Against my chest
The warmth clung to me
Like a fog
Enveloping my existence.
Days became months
It kept on growing
Jumping everywhere
Running after me
Looking at me with those pleading eyes
For taking it out
And enjoying the fun
That is the world.
Every day was a new day
Every homecoming was a joy
Of new tender feelings
And a belongingness
I have always known
Life is too short
So many things
So many memories are left behind.
But just when
Life had started blossoming
It came to an end.
I look at my hands
There is nothing in them
Except for an emptiness
Yet time and again
I feel that soft furry touch
Of memories
That will live forever and ever
