Draupadi
Draupadi
Draupadi stood still
In the court of the Kauravas
A disaster had accursed
The whole world was silent
Every man was indifferent
Draupadi sought an answer
But the world had none to give .
Draupadi asked
What was my fault
Was it destiny
Or a conspiracy
Against womanhood itself ?
Draupadi stood and looked
At herself
At her garments
And at the men present in the kuru assembly
Draupadi questioned
Her friend Krishna
Why did you show mercy
Had you let me be disrobed
The world would have witnessed the horror
Oh Krishna!
Instead of fabric,
If you had given me a thousand arms
Draupadi would have ended
Dushasana herself.
Today it is not just Draupadi,
The entire womanhood is asking-
What has changed
Between Draupadi of yesterday
And Nirbhaya of Today?
Only days, years and years have passed;
Women still stand helpless.
