Cuckoo's Call

I sit and wait for the Cuckoo's call

Sometimes a hark to its mate lost

And when found they chatter nonstop

Talking about starting a family

on the tree top

Two weeks later I hear their plaintive song

The best they has built had blown away in the storms

Egg shells lying scattered on the ground

Together they mourn.
