City Sleeps

City light, such pretty sights, Hitting heights, he’s feeling right.

Hills and mountains all alike, Conquered with the very might,

That moves the man within the night.

Red, Green, and Neon blue, Flashing at the pace of his shoes,

Congesting the eyes with electric bloom, Blinding out the stars on a cold night, shrewd.

A few kindred souls, Going down the same road. Searching for gold,

Or wanting to hold, The weight on their shoulders.

And as it gets colder, It starts to feel like a boulder.

Like the calm breeze, Silent within the streets,

Going any direction he please, Light like he’s swept off his feet.

Lost in the town, Where he can’t be found,

To the path he is bound, Includes all of the ground.

Foot after foot he goes on, Steady to the beat of his favorite song.

To his doorsteps he sang so long, Or at least goodbye while he’s gone.
