A Question to a Mother!

Mother, you are the most beautiful entity on earth.

You are a cradle to hold your children to bring them to life.

To nurture them with care, compassion, and sacrifice!

 

You are the ‘Epitome of Love!’

You know to read the eyes of your children

 and speak the language of their heart.

You are the ‘Shakti,

You are endowed with the power to create.

You forgo all the pain and welcome a new life with a smile.

You are the ‘Guru’,

You pave the path of knowledge and intellect 

And offers them teachings of right and wrong.

The role of a mother can never be undermined,

Because you play varied roles in a single life.

 

A woman becomes complete and whole

When a child is born.

You are the embodiment of God.

Motherhood is regarded as the consummation of womanhood!

Yes, most of us believe in every word

 And echo the sentiments of the above lines.

We are indebted to you, for our life,

For the values, you imbibed.

You have laid a strong foundation in our life!

 

On careful introspection, mother you will realize,

The prevalent norms, restrictions, and liberalism in society

Are not justified.

They support the mindset where I become the lesser being,

And they the supreme.

They gain the right to teach me a lesson or two,

Where I stand and where I ought to!

I may be better than them in many ways,

But eventually by conquering my body

And outraging my modesty, 

They want me to know that my vulnerability is their bait!

 

But how is this justified?

Don’t you think you, being their first 'Guru'

should teach them the difference between right and wrong?

Else, they will continue to bring disgrace and disrespect to our life.

You have to realize as you are the mother, 

 You are responsible to bring a new life.

Don't you know, "Silence in the face of injustice is complicity with the oppressor?" 

How can you become an instrument in defining the difference between your male and female child?

They have created a disillusion, a myth that you are dependent on them.

How can you fall into this trap?

You, carry them in your womb, and you, they abuse?

 

Don’t you think mother, instead of focusing on protecting me, your girl child,

You should teach your boys to love and respect me!

Only a mother can foresee, and bring their ‘conscience’ back to life.

Only a mother can bring this fundamental change for a better life!

Mother, then your duties will be delivered unfailingly.

As you and you alone are created for this responsibility!
