A Letter To Love
A Letter To Love
Of the thousand prompts spread about
I choose to write about love
For the tiringly new millionth time
In a vain attempt to try and rhyme
My pen floats in a sea of ink
Expressing an emotion it had never felt
Chronicling the oceans I never walked through,
The skies I never flew
In search of a breath that echoed with the one I drew
My soul ebbs with I love yous it never heard
My lips moist with kisses they never felt
My eyes reflect the dreams they had never seen
My footprints lead to places I'd never been
Above me bleeds an imaginary sky of teal
Dotted with clouds that whisper my name
My fingers trace the S.Os engraved on cedar trees
None of which were ever mine
I sit in a pool of hot tears and wonder
If I shall ever live the tales my eyes have seen
If my pen would ever sketch out what love would look like,
What love would say
Would love be stopping for a visit
Or would love to stay?
And would the tip of my pen generously narrate
On the oceans I flew through
The skies I swam
To find the missing piece
That I had held onto all this while.
