75 Years Hence

Every year on August 15 we celebrate our Independence Day,

Nothing new, it’s always done the same way.

Yet, it always ignites a sense of pride within me,

The tricolour flag is always a happy sight to see.

Then I remember, the sacrifice made by each and every freedom fighter,

As they are the people who struggled to make the future of our country brighter.

Only we, Indians, know the ruthlessness of British rule,

How they insulted us and used us like a tool.

Before India was called ‘Sone ki chidhiya’ and was very prosperous and rich,

Then they took away all the wealth, and our hard work went down the ditch.

Now India has come a long way,

And we can be proud of our country and its achievements today.

We must keep progressing, and moving on,

And make the freedom fighters proud, even the ones who are gone.
