Lightning
Lightning
His laugh imitated the weather outside. It was loud as thunder, lighting up the world around, so captivating that I couldn't focus on anything else. A regular night with two friends enjoying the alluring weather, that I couldn't put it in words.
He was talking about the girl he was seeing. It didn't feel right but all I could do was listen and be a friend he wanted me to be. Even when the reality was that I wanted to be more. I knew he would never fall for me, but one can never stop dreaming.
Dreaming was better than hoping because hoping for something impossible to happen was just like waiting for rain in the desert. I can't change the fact that he will never love me, I can't change the fact that he likes girls, can't change the fact that I don't.
Halfway through the conversation he stopped and looked at me saying " I can't do this anymore." He left me, his best friend because he couldn't digest the truth that I was gay. Nevertheless, he'll always have a piece of my heart and I'd wait for him to accept me for who I was.
The night changed dramatically, the lightning that reminded me of his laughter, now reminds me of darkness after.
