A Pleasant Memory

One morning, I was in the bus stop waiting for my bus. The bus was late than usual. So like any other impatient passenger, I kept on shaking my legs and moved my eyes here and there.... that's when I caught a glimpse of an old man trying to cross the road. He somehow managed to reach the middle of the road and was trying to figure out how to cross the remaining half. This poor old man was stuck there in that heavy traffic and I thought maybe I should jump right in and help him. But something held me back, maybe it was the tiring four hour long journey, an empty stomach and the merciless heat of the sun. There was a moment when this old man could have crossed the road with ease but he kept on looking back at the crowd. I wondered why and I really wanted to know what this man was trying to do. Then all of a sudden an old lady, so limp, appeared from the crowd; she was trying to cross the road too. It was her that this man was looking for. I figured out that they were husband and wife. Then, he came back to this side of the road, took the wife's hand in his, and again set foot on to complete the road crossing adventure. Something about that couple struck me, and I was watching them move as I had nothing better to do, and was distracted by a loud horn.

It was my bus, I hopped on, managed to find myself a seat by the window side. The bus started moving and as I looked outside, I found them (the old couple) again, on the other side of the road, still holding hands, even though they have crossed the road. That was the most beautiful thing I saw on that day.
