The Sky Cried

The Sky Cried

The Sky cried, as the wings fell silent,

and the horizon called back its light.

still, the walls of glass lit up, one by one,

until the moon and stars were a pity sight.

The Sky cried, as men hustled into buildings.

Its tears ran as a river on the street,

some bounced off a rainbow of umbrellas:

million drums, a melancholy beat.

The Sky cried, over drooping lilies,

an island in an ocean of steel and brick.

An open eye among the blind

to see between the truth and trick.

The Sky cried over Mankind’s chill,

till it froze all but the lone isle;

unheard sobs and iced mourns,

silent sighs for a thousand miles.
