The Voice Inside My Head
The Voice Inside My Head
Some memories never leave us. They stay in our hearts forever. Some moments bring happiness, while others leave us with pain and regret. This is the story of one moment that changed my life forever.
It was December 1, 2025. My grandfather called me. He wanted to talk to me, just like he always did. I answered the phone and said, "Hello." But I did not talk to him properly. I was busy and thought I could talk to him later. I ignored the call after a few words. At that time, I never imagined that it would be the last time I would ever hear his voice.
Life was normal for the next few days. I had no idea that everything was about to change.
On the night of December 4, at around 2:00 a.m., our phone rang. My family received shocking news. My grandfather had suffered a paralysis attack. Everyone became worried. My heart started beating very fast. I wanted to see him immediately.
The next day, December 5, I had an important examination. I did not want to go because I was scared and worried about my grandfather. My father told me, "He is not very serious. Finish your exam first. We will talk after that."
I trusted my father and went to give my exam. But during the entire exam, I could not focus. My mind was not on the question paper. I kept thinking about my grandfather. I silently prayed to God again and again, asking Him to protect my grandfather.
As soon as my exam ended, I called my father. He told me that my grandfather had been taken to AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. Without wasting any time, I started my journey to the hospital.
The whole way, I kept praying. I folded my hands and kept saying, "Please, God, let him be okay. Please save him. Nothing should happen to him." I wanted only one thing—to see my grandfather smiling again.
When I reached the hospital, I saw my family standing outside with worried faces. The doctors told us that my grandfather's blood pressure was not under control. They also said that he had a brain hemorrhage. His condition was very serious. The doctors explained that they needed to perform an operation, but first they had to control his blood pressure.
Hearing those words made me feel helpless. I looked at my grandfather from a distance. He was lying quietly on the hospital bed. I wanted him to open his eyes and speak to us again.
On December 6, my family discussed the operation with the doctors. It was a difficult decision because the operation was risky. But we all hoped that it would save his life. The doctors decided to perform the surgery on December 7.
That night, I could not sleep. My mind was full of fear. But there was another voice inside my head. It kept reminding me of December 1.
"Why didn't you talk to him?"
"You could have spent a few more minutes with him."
"You thought there would always be another chance."
Those questions kept repeating in my mind. I had no answers.
On the morning of December 7, we all reached the hospital. The doctors were preparing my grandfather for surgery. We prayed with all our hearts. We hoped for a miracle.
But before he could even enter the operation theatre, everything changed.
The doctors came to us with tears in their eyes and quietly said, "We are sorry. He is no more."
At that moment, it felt as if the whole world had stopped. I could not believe what I had just heard. My heart was broken. I wanted to cry, but I could not even speak.
The only thing I could hear was the voice inside my head.
"If only I had talked to him that day."
"If only I had spent more time with him."
"If only I had told him how much I loved him."
Those words still stay with me.
I know I cannot change the past. I cannot go back to December 1 and answer that phone call again. But my grandfather taught me one final lesson without saying a single word.
Life is uncertain. We never know when we will meet someone for the last time. We should never ignore the people who love us. A few minutes of conversation, a simple smile, or the words "I love you" can become the most precious memories of our lives.
Today, whenever the voice inside my head reminds me of my regret, I also hear another voice. It says, "Don't repeat the same mistake. Love your family. Spend time with them. Never leave important words unsaid."
I still miss my grandfather every day. His memories will always remain in my heart. Although I cannot hear his real voice anymore, the lessons he left behind will stay with me forever.
The voice inside my head will always remind me that love should never be delayed, because tomorrow is never promised........
