The Festival Of Colours Is Here!
The sun had just rose above the Horizon. The day of March 28th had just started. It was Holi. 8-year-old, Krish was sleeping snug as a bug. The alarm clock rang, Krish, got up from his comfy bed. When he opened the windows in his room he could see Rain of colours “Rang Barse” which was made by other children outside his house. After some time, he got refreshed and ran to the living room “Mom where is my pichakaree” shouted Krish. “Check at the attic” responded mom from the kitchen who was making yummy Gujiyas. At the attic, Krish found many interesting things, but the most captivating one was a box labelled as ‘Holi’. He peeked inside and picked up the pichakaree which was inside. Next to the box, there was a suitcase too, Krish was curious and opened it. The suitcase contained Dad’s clothes which he wore when he was young. Krish lifted the suitcase and pichakaree and climbed down the stairs to the living room. He told mom about what he found, and she agreed that Krish could wear Dad’s clothes.
When he got dressed up, there was a knock at the door. With excitement, he opened the door to see if it was his friends Rahul, Deepak and Sohan with whom he will play, this Holi. To his surprise, it was a dad with Grandpa and Grandma. Dad had bought a new colour powder. Grandma and Grandpa had come for lunch. The doorbell rang again, and it was Rahul, Deepak and Sohan. “Hey guys ready to defeat the girls,” asked Krish. Just then Krish’s little sister Veena came and asked if she could join their team. Rahul suggested Veena be in Meenu, Shreya, Riya and Shruthi’s team, the girl’s team, The boys thought that Veena was very little to play the paint hide n seek.
By then the girls had come and the game had begun. First, it was Krish and Shreya’s turn. While Shreya counted to ten, Krish went and hid behind the big mango tree. Shreya had excellent eyesight and found Krish’s legs beside the tree. She sprayed red colour on Krish. Next, it was Sohan’s turn with Meenu, Meenu went to hide near the bush and Sohan noticed Meenu’s black hair sticking out of the bush, and Sohan fully sprayed blue colour on Meenu. Following that it was Deepak and Riya’s turn. Deepak jumped over the fence and hide there. When Riya went searching, she couldn’t find Deepak, so the boys had another point. It was up to Rahul now with Shreya. Rahul dug a hole in the ground and buried himself under the hole. Sohan, Deepak and Krish thought that Shruthi would not be able to find Rahul there. Shruthi walked carefully, when she reached the spot where Rahul had dug the hole, she felt the soil soft, and she realized that it must have been dug recently and dug open the hole. She found Rahul and sprayed yellow over him.
“The scores are the same how do we know who won,” asked Rahul. “We could do a tie-breaker to find the winner” suggested Shruthi. “You could pick a person from your team to represent your team in the tiebreaker,” told Sohan. “We pick veena” the girls announced. “We pick Krish,” the boys said. The tiebreaker began Krish counted to ten and searched high and low for Veena. “I give up, where is she?” asked Krish impatiently. “She was just hiding behind you; we won the game” cried the girls. Krish realised that Never Judge a Book by its Cover which he had done in the case of Veena. “Lunch is ready,” said mom. “The Gujjiyas are delicious Aunty,” told Sohan. After lunch, the whole family was playing with colours. Krish enjoyed Holi this year and would do better with Veena’s training next year.
By splashing different colour fountains using Pichakaree they too mingled in the Rang Barse Fun!
