Project Awaiting

"I want all of you to do a project for me this spring break, "said Ms. Nancy, Lily and Thea's Science Teacher. "I want all of you to collect some information on any 5 species of the Amazon Rain Forest. This should be submitted on the reopening day after the spring Break" she announced. "If you get an opportunity to go to the rain forest then it will be awesome, or else research using the internet and write about their features", the science teacher continued. After the Class, there was excitement in the air, chatters could be heard all around. It was time for the dispersal of the students as they could hear the school bell ringing.

A Big Announcement

At home," Mom, Dad, our science teacher, Miss Nancy instructed us to do a project in the spring break", told Thea and Lily in unison as soon as they reached their home. "What project is it?" asked Dad. They narrated the whole episode that happened at school and as soon as they finished, the phone rang, and dad picked it up. After a while, he hung up the call and said" Guess What! My School friend Professor David called me, to request our help with some research at the Amazon Rain forest and he asked if we could come along with him to Brazil, for helping him "." Great! then the School project is also taken care of "said Uncle Ted. "A Friend in Need is a Friend indeed," told Grandma Minty.

Unifly to the Rescue

"So, let me book the plane tickets for 8 members", said Aunt Sally. After some time," Bad news! There are only 3 tickets left. How are we going to Brazil then?" asked Sally." I Know! Let us take Unifly for the ride," said Mom. "Great Idea! Mom "said Lily." There is only one issue. It will take a whole night to reach Brazil. then where will we sleep?" asked Grandpa Bob." Grandpa! Uncle Brown knows how to speed up Unifly with magic spells, Don't you Uncle?" asked Thea." Of Course, Thea, let's go, and Speed up Unifly so that, she flies through the sky in a blink of Eye, shall we?" asked Dad heading to the Door.

As fast as lightning

"Now, let me spell the magic words," said Dad. "Speed up as fast as the Lightning, so that we can reach when there is enough lighting "chanted Dad. The next day all were set to fly to Brazil. Thea and Lily chanted the magic words, and they took off and in less than a minute they were at Brasilia. There was a Big cab waiting for them with the sign "Rainforest Research Station". In less than 30 minutes they got to a small lab with an adjacent Cottage. They met a Middle-Aged person with a pair of spectacles, wearing a lab coat .it was Prof. David." Hi Dave, Nice to meet you again" said Dad, heading to exchange a warm hug. After some time, Dave got a kettle of tea, juice, and a plate full of cupcakes. Everyone had a bit of Relaxation. A Wonderful Adventure was waiting ahead.

An Amazing Adventure

"In the last few days, we heard some, very loud screeching noise which induced us to explore, the source of the noise "Prof. David started explaining about the Mission. He continued" My Fellow mates who were held up in other expeditions, advised that it is extremely dangerous to go alone into the Amazon Rain forest, searching for the source of the noise, So, I called you to help me on this Mission". explained Professor about the Research he had to do. "We are ready! "said lily and told the Prof about the school project and Prof. David agreed to help them alongside the trip.

The River of Wonder

"First Stop! The Amazon River," said Prof. David." Let me check the fuel level of the truck" continued Dave." No need for the truck, we have our own very own Unicorn to reach different destinations without fuel," said Dad." Yeah! it runs on magic spells" reflected Lily." Splendid then! All aboard!" replied David. Later they reached the amazon river basin." It's breathtaking, the view of the mighty Amazon River!" exclaimed Mom. Prof. David scanned the whole area, but there were no signs of who or what was making the screeching noise." Prof. Dave what is the name of the strange-looking Dolphin?" asked Thea who spotted an interesting swimming mammal. "It is called Amazon River Dolphin" replied Dave. "why does it have Pink surfaced Skin," asked Lily." It is Pink because of its Veins which is remarkably close to its Skin surface" replied Dave. "I read in a book that it is also called the Pink Dolphin," said Dad. "Absolutely correct!" acknowledged the Prof." I don't think the source of the screeching noise is near us. Let's Walk a little further" suggested Aunt Sally. As they walked along, they could hear various noises but not the screeching noise." Hey! what's the creature?" asked Uncle looking at a totally new animal." That's called the Capybara" replied Dave." Can you pls tell us more about this Capybara?" asked Grandma." It's the largest rodent in the World" answered Dave. "It feeds on terrestrial and aquatic plants and is herbivorous" continued Prof. David." Wow!" exclaimed Lily. "It's getting dark. let's head back to the cottage" said Grandpa by looking at the sky.

A Peaceful Night

David made a delicious dinner accompanied with a cup of hot chocolate." Dave, this is certainly mouth-watering" relished Dad. "How do you get electricity in this Rain forest?' asked mom." My Research Company provides with all comforts with solar energy stored in the huge batteries which power the cottage and the lab" replied David." Fascinating" said Lily. In a while, all of them were tucked into their beds fast asleep

The Missing Binoculars

The next day the group of 9 were ready to start their expedition to solve the mystery of the screeching noise. After breakfast," I have packed a picnic for lunch! Let's get going," said David. Everyone got ready "Where First?" asked Lily. "We are going to continue from where we left yesterday" replied David. "Wait! where are my binoculars?" asked aunt Sally. "It was there a minute ago," told Thea. "Let me check the Lab" suggested David. "I should have guessed, my Companion dog Tim has it," said David. "You have a dog, is it?" asked Dad. "Yes, my research company gave it to me, he is my partner in the lab and he helps me a lot "explained David. "Okay! Then, now that we have the binoculars, let's continue the search" said Uncle Ted.

The Unexpected Turn:

They continued their search when they crossed a slow-moving stream, "Hey! is that the Green Anaconda? I have read in many books that it's the biggest reptile" exclaimed Grandpa. "Yes! they are. In fact, they are mostly found in tropical forests like this one", answered David. They hiked through many trees. "There are still no signs of the screeching noise here", said Mom. "I'm hungry" bellowed Thea. "Me too!" said Lily. "Then let's have our picnic "suggested David. They sat in a cozy spot and opened the picnic basket and started eating."

This is delicious "relished Grandma. By the time they finished eating it started to rain." Can Unifly fly in the rain, it's only a small shower?" asked David. "She can, but her ears are blocked by water due to the rain and she can't hear our magic spells in this condition "explained Dad, "In other words, she can't fly now" concluded David. They took shelter under a huge Banyan tree. Eventually, the rain got worse "Look I think a thunderstorm is approaching "said Grandma gazing at the dark cloudy sky. "Let's get to the cottage before we get hit by lightning, "said mom. They knew that trees get hit by lightning easily as they are tall. "Come on everyone, pick your belongings and board Unifly," cried Dad." How will we get to the cottage if Unifly is not working, "asked Mom? "I can call the rescue helicopter from my research company using the Solar-powered Walkie- Talkie, "said David. In about 15 minutes the rescue helicopter arrived, all of them hopped onto it and using a towing dragger in the helicopter to tow Unifly and themselves to the base. Luckily, they reached the cottage on time. There was a heavy thunderstorm with non-stop rain and strong currents of winds. The rain continued till dusk." Oh, no it's getting dark, I'm afraid that we have to continue our expedition tomorrow, "said Dad.

The Sound Seeker:

The following day, the team woke up early to continue their adventure. The Rain had stopped by then." All Ready?" asked Aunt Sally. Everyone replied "Yes". "We should go to the Amazon riverbed near Brazil and Peru border. Maybe we could find the screeching noise there "suggested David. "How are you so sure about that spot". asked Dad." A few weeks ago, I was researching with my high tech Machine called the Sound Seeker, "said David ." My Dog Tim suddenly came running and bumped into it " he continued ." Some buttons came to action and recorded some sounds . Because I was wearing headsets connected to the device, I could hear many sounds including the loud screeching noise" he gasped. Later he continued "The Location tracker option in the machine could also show the location from where the noise was recorded and we are trying our expedition based on locations tracked in the machine. And this border is the last location tracked by the device. So only I am sure about this, as we couldn't get any clues in the previous locations "concluded David. "All right then! let us start, "said Lily.

The Fascinating Flower:

"First we better speed up Unifly, "told Thea." Do you remember the magic spell everyone?" asked Dad. "Speed up as fast as the lightning. So that we can reach when there is enough lighting", chorused everyone. They got onto Unifly to begin their adventure. When they reached the Amazon river basin "What is that carmine colored flower" asked Grandma." That is called Heliconia," said David." Due to its shape, we call it the parrot claws or lobster claws" explained David." I think this is not, where the screeching noise is coming. let's return to the cottage and have lunch. Then we can continue our search", said Uncle Ted. So, they returned to the cottage and had lunch, with the help of Unifly.

All the pieces fit together 

After lunch, they climbed back on Unifly and went to the Coast of Brazil and Peru i.e., where they discontinued. "Let's look for a footprint in the soil there may be a track of footprints leading to the animal or bird making the screeching noise "Suggested Uncle Ted. They all started searching for footprints. After some time "There is no mark or prints in the sand "exclaimed David "Yeah! we should head back to the cottage and think of new plans to find what we are searching for "said Dad ."Hey where is Unifly" asked Mom. "Oh, no let's split up and look for it, "said David. "Mom and Lily search in the north direction, Sally and Thea search in the south, Me Ted and David will take West, While Grandma and Grandpa take East "instructed David. "Okay, but everyone, take the walkie-talkies which are powered by solar energy," said David. All of them split up and looked in all 4 directions." Nothing here "said Lily and it was the same for Sally and Thea and for Dad, uncle, and David. "Hey wait! What's that screeching noise "asked Grandpa. "Maybe it could be the animal .it is! I will report to everyone". Everyone gathered and walked closer. "So, it's the Hoatzin bird making the screeching noise "realized David. "What's a Hoatzin?" asked the uncle. "It's a bird living in the mangroves of Amazon. It has claws in its wind digits and it also makes a loud screeching noise. "explained Dave." And look the hoatzin chicks have taken it, "But how does the Unifly came here, as, we previously parked it near the shore, "asked Aunt Sally. "Maybe the Amazon river dolphins could have transported it here while swimming while we were looking for the footprints, "said Thea. "Perhaps it might have happened as you said, The Hoatzin must have thought that Unifly is a predator and made the screeching to warn our Unifly not to harm its chicks." said David. "Mystery resolved. Thanks' to Unifly which accidentally helped us to resolve the mystery and not to miss you all who accompanied me in this mission," said David." said Thea. "Thank you, professor, for sharing the important facts for our project, "said lily. All of them bid Goodbye and were about to leave." This album has all the pictures of the species we saw, thank you, "said David. They boarded the Unifly and returned back home.

A Big Success

 At school, Thea and Lily presented their school project to Miss Nancy and she congratulated them. They were so happy and returned home with wide smiles on their faces.
