This is one of my favourite childhood story that my mother told me. It is the story of a boy called Hamid. The name of the story is Eidgah! It is written by renowned author of Hindi literature, known as Prem Chand Ji.

The story revolves around the era of olden times, the typical village scenes, muddy houses adn huts, a sense of belonging and a feel of love towards the village. A boy named Hamid lived with his grandma. She took care of him, she used to cook and do all the work. Hamid was quite a small and innocent boy. He was understanding and caring. One day there was a fair organized in a nearby village. He wanted to go with his friends. He knew his condition that he cannot go. So he didn't even asked about this to his dadi.

During the evening, his friends came to call me out to go to the funfair. His grandma gave me a few saved money and told him to go and enjoy a little. Hamid was filled with joy. He went and roamed about in the fun fair. He saw his friends were buying so many things, playing games and enjoying there. He too wanted too, but he didn't want to spend the money on these unuseful things. He saw so many toys he got happy looking at those toys. He saw a woman nearby selling tongs (chimta) . He took that for his grandma. He knew she would get happy. He didn't wanted his grandma to make her hand burnt while preparing rotis. When he came back home and gave his grandma the tongs, and gave the left 25 paise return. Tears rolled over his grandmother's eyes.

Really this story touched my heart and even my eyes became watery!
