My New Window Pal

My New Window Pal

I was asleep, in a soft bed when suddenly, I saw the school gates, malls, shops all close before my eyes. There were tears in my eyes and I just couldn't control it. It felt as if the world was crumbling in front of my eyes. Suddenly I woke up and rushed to the window and I banged my face on to it. I shook myself and looked outside. There was no sign of any people. It was the 1st time lockdown extended.

During the lockdown, I was getting bored and there was just nothing to do at home. I had even got bored of playing with my sister. The first lockdown was full of fun as I still had some energy left in me. I was reading a book one day when I saw an exciting activity called "String Telephone". I collected all the materials and made it from that I used to talk with my sister. The next day was very exciting as our Prime Minister Narendra Modi had told us to make any loud sound or clap for congratulating the corona warriors (the doctors and nurses). We got our utensils and made loud sounds. Soon I was attracted by the sound of a drum.

I scanned the whole society. I found out that the boy who lives next to me was playing the drum. I also took my mouth organ and played a melodious song. He also liked it. We used our musical instruments to call each other. And as soon as we heard each other playing we would rush to our window to talk. Soon, I took my string telephone and put a hook on it. After several attempts, I succeeded in reaching the cup to him. He took the cup and put it on his ear I said: "Hi, I am Shivam you play the drum very well. He replied," Hi, I am Rohan, you also play the mouth organ very well however thank you”. We both spoke until lunchtime. The next day we gave each other our numbers and also met each other on zoom/google meet. We also shared our hobbies we had the same hobbies which were reading and cycling.

My favourite food was pasta and pizza and Rohan's were burgers and cake. My favourite indoor game is carrom and my favourite outdoor game was basketball his was chess and kabaddi. We started sharing our favourite movies, our favourite storybooks, favourite subjects. I baked a cake for him as it was his birthday on 20th July. I specially baked a chocolate cake as he loved chocolate cake, I sent it to him by tying a string to his house a tied a basket in such a way that it wouldn’t fall. When he saw the cake he was amazed, thrilled and thanked me wholeheartedly. I told Rohan “We are best friends forever and this is the best gift I could give you. For your birthday.” Then both the families came to the balcony and celebrated Rohan's birthday. It was a great day for Rohan and me. I even thought him how to make a string telephone he could also use it and have fun.

We always hope that lockdown will get over soon so that we could meet each other and play together. Nevertheless, Rohan and I called this social distancing game. Having such a good window pal was a very good memory which I would never forget. He had become my best window pal. I didn’t even realize I am still in lockdown. I am happy to find such a good friend because  “One who finds a good friend finds a treasure”.
