Usha was preparing to go to the Gym.
It was her strong wish that she could join a Gym for fitness and keep good health.
After all, she was now reaching the age of fifty years and needed to pay attention to her health, especially after being troubled by the high Blood Pressure problem last month.
Just as Usha was about to leave, her daughter-in-law Sonali came to her room, “ Mummy, Can you please help Karan with his homework? He has to submit a science project tomorrow, and you are M.Sc. with Physics! I can’t handle this anyway !”
“Of course, I will help him! So what if he is in 1st standard? Our son should always excel in his studies.” Usha put aside her gym bag and called Karan, her grandson so that both of them can work on his Science project.

Sudha was wearing sport shoes at 7 a.m in the morning. Today she had challenged herself to go for a walk that was pending since last month. In fact, last month she had hardly walked for 4 to 5 days, though a public garden was just around the corner.
“ Mummy, can you please prepare baby’s food? I have to reach the office by 7.30 and yet to take a print out of the Project details that I had promised Mr. Shah! Here is the Milk powder. “
Sudha nodded, but Richa had no time to give a thankful glance to her mother. She was in a hurry to reach the office.

That evening two sisters, Usha, and Sudha were talking to each other on phone, “ How was your Gym today, Usha? “
“It was good. In fact, I could not stay for long, I had to come back early, as little Karan wanted to show me his project. He doted so much on my teaching him Science! But next Monday, I am sure I will be more regular. What about your morning walk?
“Oh it was great! You know how Mrs. Trivedi is! She ditched me at the last moment, and I am so thankful to her! I could spend time with Richa’s little one! “
Both the mothers switched off their mobile with a smile. It was not improper to lie once in a while after all!

Years passed. Karan was a collegian now, and Usha an old grandmother.
“Sonali, Can you please take me to the Doctor’s today? Well, it’s a routine check-up, but..for my heart functioning, the doctor said..”
“Mummy, I can’t come today. I have a friends’ get-together in the afternoon, and it is after so many weeks that I am attending. Sorry. Let us go next Monday. I will take an appointment for you then.”
Just then Karan entered the house, who had overheard the conversation. “Dadi, let me take you to the Doctor’s. I haven’t met Doctor Nair for a long time now. Mom, you can carry on with your program.”
Sonali interrupted. “But Karan, don’t you have a submission tomorrow? Dadi can always go next week.”
“No, Mumma, I insist that I will take her to the Doctor’s today.”
Usha could not hide her tears.

“ Grandma, Get ready. We are going for Mother’s day lunch celebration in the afternoon.”
Sudha smiled but excused herself. “ Anoli, You will have to excuse me. You know that I can not climb stairs, so I will be putting you to trouble.”
“So what? People who can’t walk properly, don’t eat food? You are coming with Ma and me. I have selected a restaurant which has a facility of a lift. Today is Mother’s Day and I can’t go without you!“
Richa looked at Anoli, but she had no time to react to the mother’s disapproving glance.
Sudha could not hide her tears.

The next day two sisters, Usha, and Sudha were talking to each other on phone. “Usha, Do you know we celebrated Mother’s Day yesterday? Both Anoli and Richa forced me to go with them for a lunch at Indigo ! Such an expensive restaurant that is! I am so proud of Richa and Anoli! Am thankful for such a lovely family! “
Usha agreed. “ Yes Sudha, You are indeed lucky. And so am I. Yesterday I had to go for Doctor’s appointment, and since Sonali was busy, Karan took me for the check-up.”
“Yes, sister, all credit to their mothers who brought them up so well in their childhood.”
