Trisha’s mother was very keen for her to marry. Trisha kept on saying that she wanted to marry a guy she loved while her mother kept saying that love can strike anytime, anywhere without warning so Trisha should initiate the process of marriage by searching for a suitable groom. This is Trisha’s story of how she fell in love with her husband. Trisha was 27, and her mother was desperate to get her married. As we all know, a woman is called single until she is 25, and after that she is just unmarried.

When Trisha’s mom asked her if she had a boyfriend, Trisha denied it. Within seconds of her denial, her mother opened Shaadi.com’s profile that she had created for her daughter. It became a task everyday for Trisha to check the matrimonial prospects.

And one fine day, Trisha came across this a profile. He seemed well-to-do. My mother got super-excited when she noticed my interest in the profile. She called the number on the profile page. This single call gave Trisha an adrenaline boost. It crossed her mind a hundred times that she might end up getting married to this guy. Somehow, she had a very strong feeling about it. By then, her mother was talking to the guy over the phone. She gave him Trisha’s number so that he could call her if he was interested.

Trisha’s mother was a single working mother and she had done more than Trisha’s father could have done if he were alive. She made Trisha and her sister independent and taught them the practicalities of life.

Trisha and the prospective groom talked for about an hour. He was looking for a soul-mate because his girl-friend had dumped him. Trisha hung up the call saying, "First get over your ex and then think about marriage." His parents then called back to say that they wanted to meet Trisha to take the talks forward. Trisha thought she had dodged the proposal but she hadn’t.

Trisha and her mother went to his city to meet his parents, to see his home and most importantly, to meet him. Their first meeting was quiet casual. They merely talked about work, friends, etc. Once the meet

ing was done and they were preparing to leave, Dushyant (that was his name) offered Trisha a ride on his bike to see the city. The ride made her feel like Dushyant was a long-time friend. After returning home, his father came up to Trisha’s mother and told her that his son wanted to marry Trisha. Her mother came back to her for an answer. Trisha was perplexed. How could she say yes after merely one meeting? She asked for more time and they agreed.

After a month, Trisha gave a green signal to her mother because she had loved the family and the boy and was keen that I should marry him. For me, it was important that I make my mother happy. Dushyant called me every day during the year long courtship.

In her mind, it was not love from her side. It was just a liking. But, for her mother’s sake Trisha went ahead and started shopping for the wedding. Shopping should cheer her up, correct? But, it somehow did not improve her mood. She was lost in her own thoughts. Trisha did not know how to deal with her emotions. Overwhelming would be an understatement here. Trisha did not like the idea of leaving her mother alone and shifting to a new city. This thought sent shivers through her body.

Finally, D-day arrived. Trisha was not even a bit afraid of her wedding. In fact, Dushyant was. Suddenly, all the overwhelming emotions and sadness that Trisha was going through the courtship year had vanished automatically. However, love was yet to be found. But, at least Trisha became hopeful that love was round the corner.

As is common knowledge, Indian weddings are all pomp and show. The rituals are never ending. Then it was bidaai. Trisha was crying her heart out and then she saw her husband crying with her. At that moment, cupid struck Trisha and she fell in love with her husband.

It is true; one cannot ever say that he or she will fall in love at this particular time or that particular day or next year this month. Nobody knows when it will happen. But the day it happens, that will be the best day of one’s life. This was Trisha’s love story.
