Mouthwatering khichdi with a variety of bhartas is my most favorite food till now. The aroma of khichdi tempered with ghee, asafoetida & onions can claim to work as an appetizer to any person from any part of the world.
Manjhla Babu used to make this favorite dish of mine, especially on Saturdays. I don't know what he used to do specifically that I crave for it till today, but going down the memory lane, I still remember that he would go into the kitchen with manjhli ma & together they would chat & cook khichdi with bhartas of not only potatoes but brinjals, sattu, gourd, parwal & what not along with chutneys of tomatoes, coriander & mint. In an hour the dinner would be ready & we were called into the kitchen to have our food there itself. Such a joy it was! Chatting all the day time incidents with manjhla babu & manjhli ma made the khichdi bhartas all the more enjoyable.
How I wish time could take a u-turn & I enjoy khichdi in the same way as I used to earlier. How I wish manjhla babu was alive, making my favorite food once again & calling me from the kitchen, 'Guddan aa jao khana khane'
