Have Our Gods Failed Us?

CAUTION: This story is not meant to deride any God, Godman, Religion, Faith or sect. The views expressed here are mine alone.

One upon a time human beings were born on planet earth. They did not know where they came from, why, or how. They could not understand Nature; why sometimes it was day and why sometimes it was night. As they settled down, more and more questions arose in their minds.

Some human beings, they discovered, were more intelligent than the others. These intelligent ones had figured out answers to some of the questions. For questions that had no answers, they created God's.

Gods became complicated with the passage of times and needed even wiser men to understand Him/Her. In the process of seeking answers, they created explanations that confounded those who were not wise or intelligent. It was left to the wise to tell the rest about Gods. These wise men became priests, pandits (brahmins) and Maulvis. Only they could tell us who God is and how to reach God.

Coming to the present times, another revolution is in the making. Old Gods and wise men are being replaced by New Gods and wiser men. Old Gods are antiquated and outdated with newer generations putting their faith in Google, Facebook, Whatsapp and a host of other multiverses within planet earth ( I will tell you more about these in another story).

A very large number of us now believe that the old gods have failed us. We now do not get the satisfaction we want from idols, churches or mosques. A human interface is what we want now. We can ourselves seek answers to many riddles through our multiverses, but the age-old confusion still remains. Where did we come from? What is the purpose we have been sent for? Who sent us here?

Thanks to our old gods, we now have a fast-breeding set of new age Gurus. But have these Gurus failed us too?

The new Gods are not asking us to give up our old gods. They know old is gold and the belief of masses in them cannot be replaced overnight, and they are prepared to wait.

But I am totally disappointed with the new gods. I was once an avid fan of the new gods and I sought them with great expectations. I followed quite a few because each one was something seemingly different from each other, and all of them were impressive. They belonged to our generation, they spoke in simple yet impactful language. They were saying that God is not complicated to understand or reach.

Yet, I say these new-age godmen have failed us. Asa Ram Bapu is now behind the bars on rape and other criminal charges. Ram Rahim, who thrilled us all with his superhero movies and vast popularity is cooling his heels inside the prison. Swami Nityananda has fled the country and created his own country overseas by buying an island of his own! We all know what happened with Osho. These new gods have abandoned millions of followers who had put them on a higher pedestal than their old gods.

Whom do we trust? Where can we put our faith? In the war of Old Gods Vs New Gods, where does the common man stand?

Well, the common man, you and I, were always blind and will die blind. We have been fooled and will be fooled forever. Gods, old and new, have failed us; at least this is what I believe.
