Who killed my Green Friend?

I was just 7 when Dad vouchsafed me a beautiful gift,

That tiny green living gave my childhood a drift!

Planted in my garden, it was each day’s first blessing to me,

Sprinkling in my soul a bucket full of glee!

What a view it was to daily see it from my room’s window,

Day and night just wearing its mesmerizing glow!

As I turned 7 to 10 and 10 to then 15,

My tree still kept showering on me its gleam!

How joyous were the days I played around him,

Unknown of the havocking mankind, I never let his greenery dim!

My morning’s first hug and the night’s last bye,

It was all I owed to my tree without any sigh!

Days and days just passed along,

When the busy schedule took me away from my tree’s song!

Leaving my city, I went abroad,

Behind was left my tree and squad!

Each day then I missed my green friend,

With whom my life was a perfect blend!

Returning to my town years later,

What I saw, left me completely shattered!

“Where is my tree gone?”, I questioned my Dad,

“Development ate your buddy”, the only answer he then had!

Weeping in tears, I thought development was some monster,

But later then I realized it was the mankind’s gangster!

To the humans out there, polluting Mother Nature,

Could you ever sense that trees are our only savior!

Your run for food, fodder and land,

Has made my tree and its ashes mixed in the sand!

What an irony it is to see this world evolving,

To the doomsday it is now dragging!

Time is still there, the sand hasn’t yet swept off our hands,

Let’s just plant more trees and transform Earth to a green band!
