The Witty Worm

The Witty Worm

I told the sun –

“Shine so bright,

that your gaze melts down my worries.”

Just then,

The birds bickered and said –

“With your worries, you’ll end us all.”

The sun said –

“Go to the wind, it might blow them away for you.”

I told the wind –

“Get so wild

that your rage blows away my worries.”

Just then,

the trees trembled and said –

“With your worries, you’ll end us all.”

The wind said –

“Go to the rain, it might wash them away for you.”

I told the rain –

“Pour so hard

that your fury washes away my worries.”

Just then,

The rats squeaked and said –

“With your worries, you’ll end us all.”

The rain said –

“Go to the sea, it it might drown them for you.”

I told the sea –

“Get your tides so high that they drown my worries.”

Just then,

The turtles grunted and said –

“With your worries, you’ll end us all.”

The sea said –

“Go the mountain, it might crush them for you.”

I told the mountain –

“Raise your mighty foot and crush away my worries.”

Just then,

the rabbits squealed and said –

“With your worries, you’ll end us all.”

The mountain said –

“Go home, human.

Your task is a tricky one.”

Frustrated that none would help

I stamped my foot and heard a worm yell.

The poor dying worm said –

“You kill my tribe without thinking twice

But do you hear us complain or cry?

God has well-blessed your kind

Why then are you never satisfied?”

Gloom took over me

and I started to retreat.

When the worm, half-dead,

to me, declared.

“Now listen to me,

and carefully you listen.

Dig a hole in the ground

and bury your worries

That way you’ll kill none,

and all will live happily.”
