The Leaf
The Leaf
It was lying at one corner of the street,
Undisturbed, unattended, and none to meet.
I stopped by it, looked up at the tree,
The leaf must be from this, fallen to be free.
It looked so happy, it looked so green,
Unaffected by everything around and not even keen.
I sat down in front of it,
asked it slowly,
“Don’t you feel depressed? Don’t you feel lonely?”
It smiled back with words, and sounded so confident,
“I am alone but heart happily content,
The tree was my home, it was my shelter
But I knew there was a limit in time, of us being together.
I am happy with all the memories,
Happy for the moments I have, to cherish
Today I have nothing to lose, nothing to gain,
But I am once again ready to live again”
Amused I asked,
“Will you come where I stay?”
“This is my place, please let me rest and lay
I am waiting patiently for the wind to blow
To take me to the place where I will again grow”
I started to walk but looked back once more
It was playing with its shadow, satisfied to the core.
