Teacher's Day
Teacher's Day
Rises before the sun
Says a prayer before they wake up
Sets the table before they shower
Is the teacher but a single parent at home
Running late scrumbles out the door
A taxi to catch fares to pay
Skip lunch for all is enough to catch a bus home
A tough life for a single parent a teacher
Dinner is ready for the kids
Then it's to their study rooms
No rest just a shower a cup of coffee
A typist role now typing her life away
Worksheets and tests assignments and programs
Memos and reminders all neatly creatively typed
Yawns and drops on the couch
Dawn breaks to the same routine five days in a week
Dedicated to her role as the provider for her home
Dedicated to her job as the teacher in the classroom
A service she gives to nurture and impart knowledge
A profession she remains loyal to
Her silent tears she conceals with a smile
Her silent struggles she throws to the back of her mind
To sweat to gain for the love of her children
Yet when at last her wrinkled face show no light
Her worn tired limbs give way and she stumbles and crashes to the ground
That smile remains in her face and she looks up to heaven
Utters her last words all for your service the work is done
I am coming home
