My Lonely Thought

My Lonely Thought

164

Inside a chamber of my heart

Lingers a lonely thought.

It slipped in a year ago or so

From its keeper’s guard, it took

One bloody route to my heart’s chamber.

“I belong to the Autumn,” the thought says.

From the gold of dawn to the crimson of dusk

It walks up and down inside my heart

Stomping and flailing

Those legs and limbs.

“I belong to the Autumn,

The tree or the leaf, I don't know,

The loser or the lost, I don't know,”

The rhyme goes on in a loop

Till my head catches the tune.

And then we go, one in pitch,

Like two loons on a full-moon night

Ignorant of our roots and the routes

We sing of autumn, solemn and sober

Like two leaves losing lives.
