"Lost Younker"

With a fluttering heart and hesitant steps he enters,

The portals of the University doling out education.

Shyness, fear, hope, anxiety summons large on his face,

Like a deer let loose in a hostile jungle.

His dress is simple, his behavior decent,

His heart is a fire with a zeal to learn,

His mind is full of ideas new and bright,

His face lights up, he takes a deep breath and starts weaving dreams of his golden life.

With a sense of pride, his parents' head is high,

Their offspring will soon touch newer heights.

Prove an obedient son, a dutiful citizen,

And in good time bring glory, fame and money white.

Time begins to fly at a furious pace,

Years begin to pass away.

What has he gained and what has he lost,

Soon his parents learn to their cost.

A fashionable, impudent, careless lout,

Graduating in Vandalism, Eve-teasing, and Politics.

Strutting with swagger, hungry for publicity,

To make known he is a student of a famous University.

"Where, oh, where have things gone wrong,

Is he the same who first came to us,

Who hardly knows how to walk, how to talk,

And looking to us for light and path".

Cry with horror, the dons,

Drowning their sorrow and leisure in cups of tea.

It puzzled me and worried me too,

What happened to us?

Had a human heart being a stone,

Being loving, respectful and kind is a dumb thing to do?

I think Irony of today's time is,

Teens pretend to be happy,

When in reality, they are broken, hurt and tired.

But now the time has come,

When a living wounded hearts need to be mended,

A nightmare future is ahead otherwise.

My dear Souls

Arise, awake and stand up, please.

The Universe is waiting for you,

Create a new history for the sake of humanity.

Heal the world with empathy, compassion, and love

And make it a better place to live in,

That is all you are worth living.
