It's A Phony World
It's A Phony World
I was walking down the road when I saw my old friend Chase
I was new in the city and it felt nice to see a familiar face;
We passed each other and I hoped that she'd look
But she paid no attention, she was liking pics on Facebook;
I called out to her amongst all the clutter
But she didn't hear me, she was too busy checking Twitter;
Suddenly there was a screech and it was followed by a wham
She was hit by a car while she was scrolling through the "gram";
I called out for help but it seemed as if we were alone
People all around us but too busy ogling their phones;
They paid no heed to my cries, it was as if they were in a trance
I pulled out my phone too but only to call for an ambulance;
I rang up her relatives and told them about the accident
Chase was hurt bad, she had multiple torn ligaments;
I asked them to come to meet her, I asked them all
They said that they were busy, the best they could do was a video call;
In this world of Facetime and this world of Zoom
We've stopped talking face to face, even when we're in the same room;
We prefer to text each other, we prefer to make a call
It was then I realized, it's a phony world after all.
