Grandfather
Grandfather
My classmates say that letters are old school
That there is no use of sending them.
In a world full of social media platforms
Letters seem an ancient mode of communication.
I wish to tell them
That these old school letters they talk about,
That they say are sent by ancient people
Still hold an important place in my heart.
In a world where the number of postmasters is decreasing
And an increasing number of post offices are shutting down,
I still read a letter before I sleep every night,
A letter I hold dear.
A letter that was sent to me seven years ago
By my now deceased maternal grandfather.
It is a letter by my closest friend
It is a letter by my well-wisher.
My grandfather had sent it to me
After I came first in school
In my tenth standard board exams.
That letter is my favorite prize.
It's not just a letter,
It's my heart and soul.
A letter I am bound to keep,
A letter that means the most to me.
