Epiphany

Epiphany

Even my unicorn wobbles while sprinting down the valley, albeit I had painted the canvas alluringly smooth, muttered Ammu.

The breakfast table wore a lumpy garb; gobbling some upma, she thrusts the Whisper pack savagely into her class 6 satchel.

Papa, is the satchel moaning…the crimson roar, lo and behold!

Does it emanate such diabolic powers?

More valiantly than yesterday, her neurons were mutilated with an array of questions.

Was it another recess spurting in a dungeon? Rahul, Jay and Sam, ammu`s classmates, sat infallibly muted.

Still reverberates as thunderbolts, those shriveled words by Sam's mother, when his sister bled on the relinquished bathroom tiles.

Ghastly, Sam flung his arms, “Do you know Ammu can be raped now…”

Other boys agreed, their voices built a vociferous fence.

We will protect Ammu, they hailed a new war cry.

Taller and redeemed, the boys veered in pride.

Walking home alongside that fatigued sunset, Ammu is hauled into those past winds again…

When maid's daughter Kamla bled, some scavengers embellished as elders,

Scooped new revelations…got her dropped from school, her knowledge cords cut.

Papa's back, exhilarated the garden ferns…

Feet scampering into the home porch, was she Ammu or a fawn?

Papa's lilting smile smeared pink blithe on her lips…

“Our soul fire, my precious mermaid, you have stronger wings now…”

“Your unicorn yearns to gallop faster, it needs your reins,” affirmed papa`s baritone faith.

And thus arrives Ammu`s resonating epiphany

Entrenched in orange candor... unyielding as the ruminating sun…
