Closed Off In A Cacoon
Closed Off In A Cacoon
Behind the walls of the prison
Each in their separate cells
Two souls tried to reach out
To the other.
One could not see but could speak
She poured her heart out
To the stranger
Perhaps swept by the tides of loneliness.
The other could hear,
But could not speak
He stammered a few monosyllables
For his mind had his heart muted
Perhaps by reason.
As days went by
Between them,
A thick fog of obscurity
Began to gather
It looked like the lengthened shadow
Of loneliness
Like the fathomless void
Of paranoid caution
Like the crippling constraints
Of sickening helplessness.
And the day arrived
When each other heard no more
Of the voice from the other side
They remained souls imprisoned forever
In silence
Behind the impenetrable walls
Of their prison
Though the doors were left unlocked
And the gates
Always left open......
