An Old Japanese Print
An Old Japanese Print

I want to walk into
An old Japanese print
(wearing a grey silk kimono
With large white flowers)
Under eternal cherry blossoms, pink.
Perhaps you and I would meet
Centuries ago in an Edo teahouse.
I would smile demurely at you
Over my emerald drink out of
A black ceramic cup.
Or, if you refuse to meet,
I would walk to a temple
Even though the sky
Is raining snow, and pray
For you to wax like
The fortnightly moon's glow.
Now, think, how intriguing it is
That you and I would exist
Together, blend on woodblocks
With watercolours and ink.
