Day 6: Grey: Maa Katyayani
Day 6: Grey: Maa Katyayani
The sixth day represents the triumph of Maa Katyayani over the demon Mahishasura. She is worshipped by devotees of the goddess Shakti. Created by the combined energies of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, she is also called the warrior goddess.
She is one of the most violent forms of goddess Durga. She rides a lion and is depicted with four hands that carry a lotus flower and sword on left side and Abhaya and Varada Mudras in the right side.
The triumvirate manifested their anger in the form of energies that crystallized into the hermitage of Katyayani rishi who gave it proper form. That is why Maa Durga is also called the daughter of Katyayani.
