Word And Action
The value of the word is based only when it is reflected in action. My grandfather always helped the poor. He even gave his food if he could see somebody without food and clothes to those who lacked it. He even constructed an old age home with his own money. He was the village headman whom everybody respected a lot.
One day I saw his cupboard which contained only two pairs of kurtas in it. I was shocked and asked my grandfather about this. He cleared my doubt by saying that he needs only this much and that's why he didn't keep much with him.
He was very young when once he met Mahatma Gandhi personally. Gandhiji was in his 'Swadeshi Mission' and gave the call to 'Boycott' the foreign products. Especially for clothes. One day he saw a lady hiding behind a bush and watching the gathering from a distance. Gandhiji went near her to ask why she is not coming forward. She revealed the fact that she has only one cloth to wrap her and as she has already washed it; she's hiding till its dried up.
This filled tears in the Mahatma's eyes and he immediately gave her the cloth he had wrapped on his upper body. From that day onwards the Mahatma managed with a single cloth only. This incident had a great impact on the youth's minds and they all decided to walk on that path of dedication and simple living.
I was listening to the entire incident with great enthusiasm and from that day onwards decided if not to that extent, but I will also do something for the poor and will consume things that are essential for me. With new energy, I moved on my action on my words.
