Unfettering Faith and Love

How long had it been? Months, probably a year or two? He had no idea. But, he had finally saved enough and had purchased it.

He ran through the door, heading straight to her. Just a few blocks more and he would reach her. His heartbeat pounded with anxiety he had never felt before.

He was all agog, for the moment he had been desperately waiting for had finally come. He could run for only so long. He slowed down, panting, breathing hard, but the smile didn’t fade away.

Right then, an old woman on her knees caught his attention. Even though he wanted to reach her in a flash, if possible, he was too kind to walk away ignoring the old lady.

He walked up to her and asked, “Can I help you? You seem to be looking for something.”

She shrugged, sighed, and shook her head, almost in tears. “It’s been hours now and I am unable to locate it with my weak sight.” After a little cough, she continued, ” I dropped it haphazardly and it seems to be eluding my eyes ever since.” 

“It must be really important for you to be searching in this scorching heat.”

“My husband gave it to me 30 years ago, the golden ring and a promise to return from the battlefield. I can’t lose it. It is a symbol of our love and witness of years I have been waiting.”

He started looking for it immediately after hearing the statement. After some time he got up to the lady and said in an excited tone, “Found it!”

The lady took the ring and it slid smoothly through her finger like it was meant to. 

“Son, you’re a wonderful person. Thank you”, she said. He bowed, smiled, and turned to walk away.

“She must really be beautiful”, she added. He turned to her in bewilderment.

She continued, “and incredibly lucky. The one who you bought this ring for.”
