All of us including me are hooked on to our new idiot handheld device, the Smartphone. It has replaced my morning alarm, wristwatch, newspaper reading in the mornings, my communication with people and above all my precious time.

I seem to want to do everything with the smartphone. Worried now whether the smartphone has taken my senses. I agree that the smartphone gives us a lot of ease to communicate and do a lot more things like paying our bills and buying things faster and easier. I can't imagine life without a Smartphone. Not sure how I spent my younger days without it.

Being affordable, Smartphones are being used by everyone from the housemaids to the rich and famous. The presence on social media is something that has brought people a lot closer in terms of knowing what is going on in each other's lives. However, I am not sure if it has brought us closer in terms of understanding each other better. I have a lot of friends on social media but I don't seem to be close to most of them. It seems a lonely world in the age of Smartphone which are supposed to ease our lives and make it happier.

Not sure if the future is bleak for healthier relationships and friendships using the newer technology. I want to however end the year with a happier note on technology in my life. It has made me more knowledgeable in a lot of areas like music for example. I am able to meet people from various countries and faiths and understand them better.

Finally, I would say that technology is there for us to use but how we use it is left up to our intelligence.

My motto for ending 2019 is "Use it but don't misuse technology including the Smartphone".
