The Secret Within
The Secret Within
My name is **Arjun**, and I used to think that superpowers were only for people in capes who could fly or become invisible. I never knew I had one hidden right inside me, until a rainy Tuesday afternoon changed everything.
It all started during our art class. I had spent three days working on a clay model of a majestic elephant. It was my masterpiece. I had carefully carved the trunk and added tiny white tusks. I was so proud of it. But as I reached for some blue paint, my friend Rahul tripped over his bag and crashed into my desk.
**CRUNCH.**
My beautiful clay elephant was now a flat, grey pancake.
At that exact moment, I felt a storm brewing inside my chest. My face grew hot, and my hands curled into tight fists. This is when I met my **"First Brain."** It was like a tiny, angry dragon waking up. It screamed in my ear, *"Look what he did! It’s not fair! Push him back! Break his model too! Shout as loud as you can!"*
I felt like I was about to explode. My mouth opened to say something really mean.
But then, I remembered what my teacher, Ms. Anita, had told us about the **"Second Brain."** The Second Brain is like a wise owl that sits quietly and waits. I closed my eyes for just three seconds. I took a deep, slow breath—in through my nose and out through my mouth.
**Pause. Breathe. Think.**
Suddenly, the wise owl in my head started to speak. It said, *"Wait, Arjun. Rahul looks really scared. He didn't do it on purpose. If you shout, you will feel bad later, and your elephant will still be broken."*
That was my superpower: **The Power of the Pause.**
I looked up at Rahul. He was shaking, and his eyes were full of tears. "I’m so, so sorry, Arjun," he whispered. "I just slipped. I'll help you fix it."
My First Brain still wanted to be grumpy, but my Second Brain made a better choice. I unclenched my fists and let out a big sigh.
"It’s okay, Rahul," I said. My voice sounded calm, even though I was still a little sad. "It was an accident. Maybe we can turn the flat clay into something else. How about a giant sea turtle?"
Rahul’s face lit up with a huge smile of relief. We spent the rest of the hour working together. By the end of the class, we hadn't just made a cool turtle; we had become even better friends.
When I went home that day, I realized that I didn't need to fly to be a hero. Controlling my big feelings and choosing kindness over anger was the strongest thing I could do. Understanding my "Two Brains" showed me that my real superpower is my heart.
Now, whenever I feel a "storm" coming, I just take a breath and let my wise owl lead the way. After all, being smart with your feelings is the best magic of all.
