Mystery of the Kashmiri Sapphire

It was a blazing sunny morning and our 4 detectives were waiting for a case since who knows when. “We thought that our holidays would be full of cases but here we are drinking ice-cold lemonade and playing checkers” said Ronald. Ronald was a 12 years old boy with swathes of muddled hair and a lean and weak body. Suddenly the doorbell rang and a stranger called out “Anyone at home” The exhilarated detectives opened the door. “I am Mr. Elvinks K Bentley but you can call me ‘Elvink’ he said. Hello, Sir please come in said Sasha with a welcoming smile. Elvink was 80 years old and was very good-natured. He wore a crisp cotton shirt with his hair neatly parted and opulent Versace lens. He told “I suppose you already know I love to collect all sorts of precious things. I had just got home a beautiful Kashmiri sapphire from my trip to the “paradise of India”. It was an exotic sapphire that I added to my collection with a velvet blue shade and a natural feel which added to the beauty of it. Very soon the news of my sapphire was all over town and yesterday night it was...stolen. I need you to catch the thief and recover my magnificent sapphire. “Sorry to hear that Mr. Elvink we will find your beautiful gem soon” said Ronald. “Excuse me sir but can we know a little more details about where it was kept and around what time was it stolen, were there any workers or anybody who could have stolen it” said Christie grabbing a notepad from her backpack. Christie was 10 years old probably the youngest one in the group but she was the clear definition of “Beauty with brains”. She was always ready to go and prepared for any occasion be it a medical emergency or a surprise test. After telling them everything the 4 made a plan to go to his house tomorrow as it was late in the evening, the sun was about to set and their moms would be angry if they turned up home at night time. Next day everyone was ready in their attire with their gears packed. As soon as they reached Mr. Elvink’s home they saw he was panicked. “What’s the matter Mr. Elvink you seem off” asked Jake. Jake was 13 years old; the eldest one and the leader. Though he was arrogant and impudent if you got to know him better you would call him the kindest friend i.e. detective ever. “Well you see the news of my sapphire’s disappearance has spread like wildfire. “People will not believe in Gods when they see a renowned priest like me losing a precious sapphire” he said with tears clouding around his eyes.

Feeling sad for Mr. Elvink they reached the basement where the sapphire was last seen and began to search for clues. Sasha found a loft of hay. In between the loft of hay was a little torn chit with the address “ 24 Lake.” And a sticky note “If you are reading this then you are starting the quest” There will be 2 more chits and a couple of clues. Good luck and goodbye. Well, that’s weird said Sasha thieves never reveal their hiding place.. “Look what I found” said Ronald interrupting Sasha’s thoughts. Sasha quickly came over and saw another chit in Ronald’s hands torn and crumpled like the one she just found. “Well it looks like these two chits are from the same paper.. Stop I have one more said Christie. When they joined all the pieces it formed “24 Lake Avenue street Building two on the right side.“ Beware you just chose to give yourself a scare”. They found a piece of grey hair by the back door. “Weird, its somebody old” muttered Sasha. After finding all this and a pair of spectacles the 4 decided to go to the place. When they reached the archaic building which looked abandoned and stepped in the door closed by itself. “Eerie” said Sasha and everybody started laughing except Christie who got chills down her spine. Sasha was 11 years old and loved joking around and pranking. She loved to bake and dreamt of going to culinary school one day. Suddenly they heard a noise and the room went pitch black. As soon as the lights went back on they found themselves in a cage. They heard a voice “Now that you are out of my way I will cause havoc in this world while you’ll die of starvation.” Now all the smiles were gone and Sasha asked “Who are you and what do you want.. Well I will reveal my identity in 3..2..1. Boo! It was their granny. She got them out of the cage and said “Now now “ but granny who was that Mr. Elkin.. Oh well, he was my old friend who helped me plan this out for you.. I know you all haven't got a case since the summer holidays began so I made one but it was hard I wonder how thieves do it so easily.. They all said” Oh granny You are the best” and they happily grabbed a glass of sherbet to relax from the chaotic day.
