THE FRIENDSHIP GAME

Best-friends are destined to be with each-other, even after their worst quarrels. But if you don’t get along with your best friend, maybe you are not meant to be together.

One fine morning Anna and Celine, two best friends arrived at school. They were delighted to see each-other on a Wednesday morning at school. They went and hugged the other best friend.

“Celine, good morning. Are you not excited! Sasha is joining school from the next week.” Anna asked excitedly.

“Oh…sure” Celine was disappointed with her friend thinking about her classmate instead of her. Sasha was a just their simple classmate who had broken her arm and therefore did not come to school for one-month. Celine used to be close with Sasha, but Anna wanted to be her friend so she left being best-friends with Sasha. She was curious to know why Anna would ever think of Sasha.

“You want to go play something in the field?” Anna asked to distract her friend who was lost in thoughts.

“Yeah, yeah why not.” Celine replied faking a smile. A few weeks passed and Celine walked into the classroom. A surprise was waiting for her…and it was Sasha.

“Hi, Sasha! You’re back!” Celine said while hugging Sasha.

“Be honest…are you surprised?” Sasha asked. Celine nodded happily. It was time for the class to start and that is when Anna walked into the classroom. And a few seconds later the teacher came in to. After an hour the teacher left and everybody started talking to their partners. Anna went and hugged Sasha. She went to Celine and said “Celine, why don’t Sasha, you and I sit together?”

“Nah, how about we sit with Ella.” Pamela replied. Anna did not say anything and just packed her bag and sat beside Sasha, leaving Celine with Ella who was just a friend. Celine was shocked since Ella and Sasha were best friends, Anna didn’t like Ella but she seemed to be doing well with Sasha. Plus, she used hate both Sasha and Ella what happened to Anna now? Celine was really sad and Ella was trying to cheer her up. A few minutes later Celine started crying and Ella called Tiara to sit with them.

“Do not cry, Celine.” Tiara told Celine while rubbing her back. Ella nodded. Tiara did not make Celine feel any better. Few days passed like this and one day Anna finally spoke to Celine.

“Why did you cry when I sat with Sasha? People think that I did something bad to you. Well, even if I didn’t everyone thinks so.” Anna said rudely.

“Who told you so?” Celine replied.

“Everyone like Andrea, Natasha and so many…!”

“Oh, I see. People never say that about Tiara and Hannah. They are like PB and J! Why don’t they say all this about them? Because they don’t let anything come in the way of their friendship…but you do!” Celine said angrily. That was the end of their friendship. Anna left and Celine stayed back and waited for Anna to leave. Celine felt really sad and at the same time, angry. Maia, a girl whom Celine never talked to, sat beside her.

“What happened, Celine? Why are you so sad?” Maia asked. Celine explained what had happened.

“Oh, you know I’ve had a similar situation. I did feel sad but then I thought friends aren’t forever. The whole class is your friend. You’ll have a different best friend in elementary school, middle school, high school and maybe none in college. Don’t be so upset because of this. There are plenty of people out there waiting to be your best friend. You don’t need some Anna. Let her do what she wishes. If she can have a new best friend then you can too.” Maia told Celine to console her. This was the best piece of advice anyone had ever shared to Celine.

“Will you be my best friend, Maia?” Celine asked.

“Sure!” Maia replied. 

The next few days Celine couldn’t care less about Anna and Sasha, she’d even found a new best friend, Flora and      of-course, Maia.
