The First Smartphone

It was my fathers fiftieth birthday. I was wondering what to gift him. I thought to gift him a watch but he had purchased a new one last month. Then I thought to gift him a pen but already there was a lot of pens kept in the drawer which were gifted earlier. So I dropped this idea too. Then I thought about a smartphone and finally decided to gift him one. I knew he would deny to use a smartphone because he hadn't used one yet and moreover he would excuse by saying that he is not educated enough to use a smartphone.

Nevertheless, I chose to stick with my idea and gift him one on his birthday. He looked excited while opening the gift wrap but the moment he found a smartphone, his excitement changed into confusion and he gave the same excuse. But I forced him to start using it first to which he agreed. It has been almost two and a half hour since that day. I won't say that my father has become a pro in using a smartphone but he has managed to learn the basics. And the best thing about gifting him a smartphone is that every night after dinner we talk in a video conference which in a way has brought us closer in spite of living far from home.
