Ever since he was born, there hadn't been a day I wasn't jealous of him. And why wouldn't I be, he suddenly got promoted to Everyone's Favourite position.

Just two years younger than me, my brother, our classes weren't too different, I mean we were still prone to comparisons and unfortunately for me, I was at the receiving end always. He being studious and brilliant. Me being quite the opposite.

By the time I was in eighth grade and he sixth, I realised I had had enough of his academic excellence at home. So I did what seemed best. The day before his maths exam, I hid his textbook. Under the sofa cushions, I knew nobody would look.

Folks at home panicked and I rejoiced. Being just a day before exam, nobody lent his book to my brother. He appeared for the exams, with hardly any preparation.

A few days later Mom flipped the cushions for cleaning and found the book. Suspicions rose and all fingers pointed towards me, my parents were smart enough to read my jealousy.

But what happened next transformed my life. My brother declared he had kept it there, for gluing it harder and had forgotten all about it.

I don't know why he did that but he had saved me nevertheless. It's been almost twenty years now, but I still can't stop loving my brother more.
