Stranger In The Mirror

The man looked at himself in the mirror and immediately turned. There was someone else in the mirror. Then he realized his folly. There could not be someone else there as he was alone in the house. Still when he looked at himself again, he felt as if some stranger was staring back at him from the mirror.

He came out of the washroom and sat on the sofa, reflecting upon the strange phenomenon of a stranger staring through the mirror. The curtain was open. His eyes fell upon the car parked outside the house. It had some dent on it. The memories came flooding back to him.

He had been driving early in the morning. Since there was no traffic on the road and the traffic lights were yet to be switched on, he was driving fast. Suddenly a person jumped in front of his car. The person had suddenly jumped from the roadside to the middle of the road. He noticed that the person was trying to avoid coming in the way of a stray animal running on the roadside.

Even with applying full brakes he had not been able to avoid hitting the person. Instead of stopping and helping the person, he had driven on.

The guilt overpowered the man. The mirror was right, he was not the person he used to be. There was no escape from guilt. He must own up the responsibility. The decision made, he felt light.

He went to washroom again and looked into the mirror. The person in the mirror had started showing some resemblance to him, although there were some dark clouds on the face.

He started walking towards police station. He was sure that once he came back, the mirror will show him as he used to be.
