Changing past mistakes 

I am an only child and I always wanted to have sisters, so I knew I wanted more than one child. I was so blessed after years of trying to have not one but two beautiful girls. Only I never knew having a sister and being best friends with them growing up was an only child fantasy.

My girls fought their whole childhood, it wasn't until they were in their twenties that they became best friends. Growing up in an era when you didn't talk to your parents about personal stuff, I vowed that I would talk to my girls about everything and anything. I wanted them to be able to tell me anything and I swore that I wouldn't judge them and be open enough to listen. I wouldn't repeat the patterns that my parents had learned and did with me. 

We have been lucky enough to have that open relationship and I truly enjoy the time we spend together. I actually love them as human beings and not just because they are my girls. I love to spend time with them whether we are traveling or just chilling at home watching movies.

There is nothing more important than family and I am truly blessed to have them. Sometimes we get so caught up in life and the petty bullshit we forget the important things. If covid taught us anything it's that life is too short and at the end of the day all you have is family around you.

We have to get over the small stuff, we have to learn to love them for who they are, flaws and all. We have to remember that we are blessed as many people are alone in the world and pray for what we have. 

So today my friends remember, enjoy the time with your children. Change the patterns and behaviors of the past. We are here to learn and grow, what happened in your childhood doesn't need to be repeated.

I am glad that I learned this and made the change I wanted to see.
