Selfless Maternal Love
Selfless Maternal Love

Constable Gurnam Singh was a brave
BSF (Border Security Force) soldier whose statue now stands at 'Shaheed Gurnam Chowk' in the R.S. Pura sector of Jammu.
In October 2016, he was critically wounded during an attack by snipers and militants from the Pakistani side of the international border; he later succumbed to his injuries, sacrificing his life for the nation.
Every winter, driven by her boundless love and deep bond, his mother, Yashwant Kaur, wraps a warm blanket around the statue—as if to ensure that her 'little boy,' now in the form of a statue, does not feel the cold. This poignant expression of a mother’s inner longing and pain has deeply moved many.
As the winter chill intensifies each year, Yashwant Kaur—much like a mother protecting her living child from the cold—visits the square and personally wraps a warm blanket around the statue of her martyred son.
To her, this figure is no longer merely a memorial or a structure made of stone or metal; in her heart and belief, her son remains alive. It is this profound, selfless maternal love that compels her to perform this act every winter, ensuring that her 'little boy'—captured here in statue form—does not suffer in the biting cold. This sight—a mother’s endless, heart-wrenching love for her child—leaves people across the entire nation deeply moved and awestruck.
