Real Cost of RO Water

Most of you will be surprised to know that the operating cost or processing cost of RO water is about 10 paisa (0.1 rupee) per litre.

Now if you include other costs like bottling cost, packaging cost, transportation cost and amortisation cost, even then the overall cost of RO water will come to 50 paisa or half a rupee per litre!

Now, just see the margin of profit (about 30 times) considering that bottled RO water is being sold at Rs 15 per litre!

No wonder that RO is a lucrative or profitable business in India now.

To think that potable drinking water was once a basic and perennial item (available in plenty) and nobody had to buy it!

Today RO water is a luxury item and even a status symbol thanks to the depletion and pollution (contamination) of ground water.

It really pinches me to buy a bottle of RO water knowing well that some people are doing business with one of the basic necessities of life!!
