While buying a pencil, you must have often told the shopkeeper that a pencil with HB or 2B is needed. Have you ever wondered why you used to do this? According to the codes like HB, 2B 2H, and 9H in the pencil, its character changes. It has a direct effect on handwriting and sketching, but it is important to understand the code for its better result. Know what these codes mean by the quality of the pencil…

If HB is written at the end of the pencil, then H means hard. B means black. That is, the pencil with HB is of normal dark color. Similarly, HH is written on the pencil, so it tells that it is harder. Similarly, pencils with 2B, 4B, 6B, and 8B are darker.

The graphite seen in black color in the pencil decides how its coding will be done. The darker it is black, its blackness will increase. It is denoted by 2B, 4B, 6B, and 8 B. That is, 8B will be darker black than 2B.

Be it office or school, it is generally recommended to use HB pencil as the graphite present inside it is neither too hard nor too soft. Hence a pencil with HB gives off an average color. It is considered the best.

Now understand why pencils with different codes are used. It can be understood with the example of sketching. During sketching, a 2B pencil is used to give a lighter shade to the face. At the same time, to give shape and color to the hair, use a pencil 8B.
