Our Home

We plan to have a relaxing Sunday afternoon and visit the place, where we booked our house. We see the banner of our builder, and yes the construction is on its full swing. We park the car and start walking.

“Hey stop! Where are you heading to? Construction work is going on, you can’t go ahead.” the guard stops us.

“We booked our house here, just came to check, how the things are going on,” I reply.

“Which number?”

“Tower B, 77.”

“Oh ok, Tower B is a little built... see there, that is tower B. Can you see that floor towards right? That is yours. Take these helmets, wear these, and be careful. I will send someone to accompany you.”

“Thanks!”

We feel good as this is our first visit to our home, our own home. We are very excited, especially the kids. That man takes us safely to tower B, and then we hurriedly move to our flat. It is an empty floor, with no walls at all, but we clearly see everything in our imagination where our drawing room is, where the kitchen is, etc.

This proves to be an emotional event for us. Our first steps to our own home is not an ordinary thing for us, we are completely overwhelmed with the beautiful feeling that we are standing in our own home.

“Uncle, where will be the balcony?” my little girl asks the mason.

“Over here.” He replies.

“But I can’t see park from here. When will the park be built, uncle?”

“This house is not park-facing, you won’t be able to see the park from here.” The mason replies.

“Oh no! But Papa, you told us, we can see the park from our balcony.” She looks at me with hope in her eyes.

“Yes, I was told so. But it’s fine. After all, it’s our home.” I consoled her.

We are still happy, we just love our home, the way it is. No matter, we can’t see the park from here. We can always go downstairs to stroll around the park.

On enquiring, which part of the house will be receiving morning sunlight, he tells us that there will not be direct sunlight in this house, as another flat ahead of it will block the sunlight.

We look at each other and then smile. This region is already warm; it’s fine with us if we don’t get direct sunlight in our home. We still like our house. Children started pretending as if they are watching a movie sitting on the couch, and started eating chips.

We also notice that the direction of the entry door of this house is not the same, as considered the best direction according to Vastu.

But we are fine. I only heard about Vastu, but I really don’t believe in it. We are ok. This is our house. We love it.

We start leaving the place after happily spending two hours there.

After a few weeks, we again went there. It was a little more built. We could easily see the boundaries of the rooms. We all enjoyed spending a few hours there.

Then it became our routine to spend a few hours every 15/20 days there. We liked seeing it built step by step.

And the day came when we were given the possession of the house. Some units were built before ours, and some would be built later. People have started moving in. We could see many families started living there. Excitedly, we reached the place, found the door was locked from inside. A bit confused, pushed the bell button, a lady came out.

“Hello ma’am, we are given the possession of this house today. “ hesitantly, I say.

“Excuse me. This is our house. We already moved here a month back. There must be some confusion at your end.” She responds.

My daughter frowns a little when she sees that lady and comes closer to me.

“This is Tower B, 77?” I ask nervously.

“Yes, this is Tower B, but not 77, it is 78. 77 is that unit, just the opposite door.” She replies.

“Oh, thanks! Sorry for bothering you.” I feel very melancholic right now.

We notice the numbering on the house at that moment. She is right, it is not our home. But, we can’t ignore the fact that we are so attached to it. It is the one, we saw built in front of our own eyes. But realizing our mistake, we move to another unit, cross-check the number again, yes 77, we enter the house.

I don’t know if I m ready for this. I look at my family and they can see the stress on my face.

It is beautiful. My kids started running to see all the rooms. My daughter takes my hand and leads me to the balcony, “Papa, I can see the park from here. It’s a park facing unit.”

“Yes” I say to her and give her a kiss on top of her head.

Wife happily comes, “The direct sunlight is coming. “

And the entry door’s location was also according to Vastu.

I sit on the floor and put my face in my hands. My wife kneels in front of me and takes my hands in hers.

“Why aren’t you happy? We are happier. This is our home, our own home.”

I nod my head when they look at me.

Suddenly, we all are happy again.
