OPEN MIC EVENT

‘Vidyarthi’ an NGO working for students helping them overcome their problems related to academics or share their thoughts that are affecting their academics had organized an “Open Mic Event” for the students to gather and share their thoughts on any topic related to education or the educational system.

Students from various fields and various colleges joined the event and the auditorium was full when a boy entered the auditorium with pin drop silence around. He had a mic in his hand, and he started his speech on the given topics….

March 2020, my board exams were going on when I came across a thought, why am I studying biology in so much detail? I want to pursue engineering after the 10th, so why should I stress my mind with tissues and cells present in my body? Where will they help me? I was never taught how to fix any real-life problem, I would like to question the education system, if I am working in my office on my computer and something goes wrong with the system, how am I supposed to react? My schooling never taught me this. I was taught trigonometry which was never ever going to help me in my life, I want to work in the software field on computers why do I need to study or even know trigonometry, my friend wanted to pursue civil engineering and he spent his nights to study computer subjects, what was the use? Can the system give him back the precious time that he spent studying the things which are never going to help him in his life?

We can have an endless debate over useless and poor subject selection so I request that any government official is seeing the video teach students what will help them not what you want them to learn.

The next big problem or issue is reservation in the admission process, it is one of the worst things a nation can ever have. Can you justify why you want to prioritize people of a specific caste/religion/language in the admission process? Just because he belongs to a specific caste why should he/she be considered first? Let me share my experience of the admission process after the 10th class.

I applied for admission in the open and general category whereas other students applied in the minority category, I checked the list where people with 79% who filled with minority secured their admission whereas I with 85% had to wait for the next round, system please answer, just because I don’t fall under minority my marks don’t matter? And because another student was in minority, he secured his admission before me. I don’t know what the system wants to prove by doing this, a guy with 85% is waiting for his admission whereas others with 79% got their seats. I had a talk on this topic with some people from minorities they said this to promote minorities as they have less scope of opportunities. In my mind, I question, whether a deserving candidate should be given the opportunity or someone who has fewer opportunities should be given. A person studying and scoring marks should get the seat or a person from a minority?

This is not finished yet, after getting admission teaching facility is not at all up to the mark, and the fees taken are much more than the level of teaching. Teaching here isn’t about learning concepts, or making a successful start-up, it’s all about submissions and attendance. I hope we soon get out of this jail-type education system and upskill ourselves with what all we want and make our life better for us to live and achieve our goals in life.

We can’t change this system but let us pledge we won’t let this system keep us away from our dreams and touch the sky in our future. This system will stop us from being successful at an early age but can’t stop us from being successful. Life is yours change it at the correct time.

All were impressed with his speech. And he was awarded the speech of the day.

This is not just a speech but also the voice of almost every Indian student.
