On Being Grown-up
On Being Grown-up
Rachel was always asking her mother to let her be a grown-up. Her mother would say, "You are just seven. Wait a little bit." But Rachel was in a hurry and kept on asking her.
One day, her mother decided to give in to her request. She said, "Now that you are grown up, you can make your own breakfast from tomorrow."
Rachel was very excited. She barely slept at night. In the morning, she quickly got ready and went to the kitchen. As she stood there, she realized something and went running to the mother.
"But I don't know how to cook", she said.
Her mother gave a laugh and said, "Come! I will teach you." So off they went.
Rachel's mother taught her how to assemble sandwiches. She helped the little girl cut the tomatoes and cucumber. Rachel enjoyed the sandwiches and the process of making them.
She thought for a little while, then went to her mother and said," I think you are right. I will wait for some time. Please can I be a 'grown-up in training ' in the meantime?"
Her mother laughingly agreed and congratulated her on her decision. Rachel proudly set off to school for regaling her friends with her big news.
