My trip to the Andamans was an extremely enjoyable vacation. It was so because of two reasons, both equally strong. First, it was a family holiday. It is very rare that all of us are together as both sons are working. So they plan in such a way that we are able to vacation together. Secondly, the locations were awesome.

We flew from Delhi to Port Blair via Chennai. From there we were transported to Havelock Island by Ferry. It was quite exhilarating

We were housed in a seaside cottage surrounded by coconut trees. I narrowly escaped being injured by a free falling coconut.

We had seafood at a nearby restaurant that night. Next morning we were taken to Elephant Island by a speedboat. There we enjoyed Jet skiing and snorkeling. It was an out of the world experience to see the colourful fish , flora and fauna underwater. In the evening we went to Radhanagar beach to witness its famous sunset. We played in the massive waves The sunset was really breathtaking. We came back very tired so stayed in our resort that evening.

The third morning we were transferred to Neil Island by ferry. At this resort also, our rooms were sea facing. The rooms were beautiful in themselves. They even had a swing inside. In the afternoon, we went to see the natural coral bridge formation. It is called the Howrah bridge.. There we saw all kinds of marine creatures like crabs , live coral, star fish, sea cucumber etc.

I even clicked a sea snake on a rock. Then we went to Bharatpur beach where we went out in the glass bottomed boat. We were able to see many types of fish and different types of coral. They were of numerous colours and shapes. The guide described them to us about them in detail. He also told us that the glass at the bottom of the boat was, in fact ,a magnifying glass. That is why we could see everything clearly. We returned to the resort tired but very happy.

The next morning I clicked lots of pictures of the beach and resort before taking the ferry back to Port Blair. The entire day was spent sightseeing in and around Port Blair. We visited the Samudrika Museum amongst other places. In the evening, we went to the iconic Cellular Jail. A light and sound show was scheduled after going around the jail. Suddenly it started raining very heavily. It was announced that the show was canceled but we hung around praying somehow the rain would stop. Lo and behold! It did.

And we witnessed a mesmerizing light and sound show chronicling the freedom struggle. I had goosebumps listening to the rendition. An early dinner and we slept like logs.

The next morning we flew back to Delhi, a happy and satisfied lot. We plan to return someday and visit other islands.
