I heard her voice calling my name, banging on the door again and again, I woke up and look at the hanging clock but it was not visible clearly due to the darkness. The clock seems to strike at around quarter to twelve, I tried to find her, in her bed but she was not there. I then stood up from my bed and went towards the main door to unhook it and let her in. To my surprise, she was not there. I thought she got tired calling my name and left so I went further down the stairs but she was not there too. Then I came back and returned back to my room and to my horror, my mom was in her bed staring at me shockingly and asked “Munni where did you go?” I became numb because I was so scared that I even started crying. I could not imagine how her voice still echoed in my ears calling me for help.

The next day though I was feeling a bit safe still I could not keep my mind away from the nightmare- a horrifying nightmare that I had last night. It was 7 a.m. I was still in my bed and I was already getting late for my school as the school assembly starts at 8 a.m. sharp every day. Moreover today I could not think about bunking school as there will be an extempore speech competition and I had to participate.

During the 2nd last period of today’s routine, the teacher left us 5 minutes early so as we can prepare ourselves for the competition. As we reach the hall, students were making noise but as soon as the principal enters the hall there was a pin-drop silence. The host had announce the judges for the day- Ms. Lily (English teacher), Ms. Indrani (teacher-in-charge) and Sir Surajit (our academic coordinator).

While the other participants were delivering their speech, I was busy thinking about the last night incident that happened to me. Suddenly I heard my named being called “Munni, please be prepare you’re the next participant.” I went up to the stage and picked up a chit from the bowl containing many chits consisting of different topic. The topic that I got was “Youth leadership” I remained silent for about thirty seconds and then I started, “Good Morning, everybody respected teachers, judges and all my dear friends.” I again paused for about ten seconds and then I started by reciting a small poetry-

Lead so that they will follow

Encourage so that they will grow

Accomplish with all your hearts

Daring to be a part

Enthusiasm should be with us

Ready and to be prepared is a must.

All the crowd started clapping their hands. Then I started again “We are the youths of today, we are the leaders of Tomorrow, a true leader does not only direct others to do this and do that but instead leads us towards perfection.” I also narrated about the story of Harbhajan Singh who was a great patriot, who leadership qualities were being praise till today, how he managed to block the terrorist who were about to approach India through the borders.

With that I ended my extempore speech and everyone give a big round of applause.
